About the Word & Character Counter
Type or paste text to see its word and character totals immediately. The counter also shows characters without whitespace, paragraphs and lines, making it useful for forms, essays, captions and other length-limited writing.
How the text counts work
Words are detected with Unicode-aware text segmentation. Characters are counted as visible characters where the browser supports it, so a combined emoji or accented character is treated as one character. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line, while every line break starts a new line.
FAQ
How are words counted?
Words are identified using the browser's Unicode-aware text segmentation, so the counter works with many languages and punctuation styles.
Are spaces included in the character count?
The main character total includes spaces and line breaks. The separate without-spaces total excludes whitespace.
Does DUN DAT store or upload my text?
No. Your text is counted locally in your browser and is not uploaded or stored.
