About the Password Generator
Create a random password with the length and character types required by an account. Each selected character type appears at least once, and the remaining characters are drawn from the full selected pool. Generation happens locally in your browser.
What makes a strong password?
Length and unpredictability matter most. A longer random password has far more possible combinations than a short memorable pattern. The strength shown above is an estimate based on password length and the size of the selected character pool; it cannot account for an individual service’s storage or security practices.
Use a different password for every account, store it in a reputable password manager and enable multi-factor authentication when available. Never reuse an important password after it has been exposed in a breach.
FAQ
Are passwords generated on a server?
No. Passwords are generated locally in your browser using its cryptographic random-number generator. The generated value is not uploaded to any DUN DAT service.
How long should a password be?
For most accounts, use at least 16 random characters. Longer passwords give more protection against guessing, provided the service accepts them.
Should every account have a different password?
Yes. A unique password prevents a breach at one service from exposing your other accounts. A reputable password manager is the easiest way to store unique passwords safely.
What does excluding similar characters do?
It removes I, l, 1, O, 0 and o, which can be difficult to distinguish when a password is read or typed manually. This slightly reduces the character pool but can prevent transcription mistakes.
